Emma Louise Hutchinson was born on July 18, 1980 in
Nottingham, England. Her childhood days were spent running
through open farm-fields, climbing trees in Sherwood
Forest (yeah really) and time at the beach with her family. In June 1990, that all changed. When her family
immigrated to Canada, Emma was exposed to what felt like a
whole new world. It was in that new and exciting world,
that she found photography.
As a child, she would watch her father - a recognized and
published reptile photographer in the U.K - set-up
studio shots of snakes and lizards. Emma would later
develop an interest in photography, purchasing her first
35mm camera (a Canon A1E) at sixteen. After high school
graduation, she continued to study photography by
enrolling in various night courses at Memorial University
of Newfoundland. With a growing interest in the subject,
Emma left the university to study photojournalism. Upon
completion, she worked as a reporter for various local
newspapers, but later branched out into freelance
photojournalism. Her portfolio as a journalist includes
work published in newspapers under Transcontinental Media,
Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador and The Newfoundland
Herald.
Emma shot her first wedding - for a friend - in 2002 and
like clicking the shutter of that Canon A1E for the first
time, she was hooked. Emma has been working with newlyweds
ever since. Although her work includes event, portrait and landscape photography,
her passion is weddings. As a former journalist, she takes
a photojournalist approach.
